WGSPublishing delivered a young writers workshop with 30 pupils from year 6 and 30 pupils from year 5 of Oliver Goldsmith Primary School. Different Black authors from the UK, Uganda, and Canada (hybrid) joined us, sharing their knowledge, skills, and experience. This was followed by a Q&A, and at least an hour and a half was dedicated to an applied writing practice session. We had several beginner-friendly writing exercises, and I gave students exercises and tips to take home to build a writing practice. Students had the opportunity to share their writing and receive feedback. This was a friendly, fun, and open space for getting words on the page, building confidence, and developing young people’s writing practice.
