Reach Academy Feltham is a Nursery to sixth-form school. WGSPublishing delivered a young writers workshop with 60 pupils from year 6. Different Black authors from the UK and Canada (hybrid) joined us to share their knowledge, skills, and experience. This was followed by a Q&A, and at least an hour and a half was dedicated to an applied writing practice session. We had several beginner-friendly writing exercises, and I gave students exercises and tips to take home to build a writing practice. Students had the opportunity to share their writing and receive feedback. This was a friendly, fun, and open space for getting words on the page, building confidence, and developing young people’s writing practice.
